Anytime I'm in a application or a site, when i try and click on a link,a box pops up and offers a series of options. If I hit ESC, it goes away until I try to click another link. I have to keep hitting ESC until it finally les me click on a link. Wastes a lot of time and is frustrating.

Do you mean this?

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"

The setting in "Tools > Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
