I have firefox 4.0.1 constantly nagging me to update to 5.0 beta version. It also says that beta version is prone to crashes, data loss, end of humankind and memory leaks. There's no "I DONT WANT TO update to betas" button anywhere, so how to prevent nags from appearing?

It is possible that you are still on the beta update channel if you ever installed a Firefox 4 beta version or a release candidate.
You can check that by looking at the pref app.update.channel on the about:config page.
If the value of that pref is beta then it is better to download and install the latest Firefox 4.0.x release.

Just changing the value from "beta" to "release" does not eliminate the nag. I guess you really have to re-install.
