Why can't I use the stable release of firefox and the aurora version at the same time?

I have downloaded aurora, but when I click on the Firefox 4 icon it takes me to aurora. Is it not possible for me to use both versions. One for testing and the other for everyday use.

1. Do a custom installation to a uniquely named folder.

2. Create a new profile exclusively for Aurora and create a desktop shortcut with -P "profile" appended to the target to launch that profile.
