After logging in to a site, I am prompted to remember a password (like normal) but when I click on "Remember" it doesn't accept my response. The prompt bar just hangs there, and the password is not saved.

I'll enter my login information, and get the bar at the top of the screen that states "Do you want Firefox to remember password X on Y.com?" I click on the "Remember" button. The button's border turns blue, which does indicate to me that the click itself is registering, but the bar just hangs there instead of scrolling up into the top of the screen as it usually does. When I return to Y.com the password is not remembered.

This can be a problem with the files key3.db and signons.sqlite that store the encrypted names and passwords in Firefox 3.5 and later.

See "Troubleshooting":

If you see passwords in the Password Manager (Tools > Options > Security: Passwords > "Saved Passwords") then you can save the existing passwords with the Password Exporter extension before removing the files and re-import them afterward.

Check that the exported (xml) file has all the names and passwords.
