Firefox was running fine. Windows 7 computer died. I now have a new computer and I have an external HDD with copies of the files that were on the old/dead computer. I want to move my Firefox stuff over from the external HDD backup to the new computer so that my Firefox is back as it was (bookmarks, add-ons, extensions, settings, everything except passwords).

Is there some way to transfer all the stuff in one fell swoop, i.e. is there a Firefox folder that I can simply mouse over from the backup disk to the new computer or do I have to transfer individual files and, if so, in what folders are they stored in a Windows 7 Firefox installation ?

Thank you for your help.

You can copy selected files from your old profile folder to your current profile, for details see Recover important data from an old profile.

Thank you very much for this rapid response. I checked these links and if I understand correctly the Profile does not contain add-ons and extensions so I somehow have to restore those separately. Can they be restored too by mousing files/folders over from the backup HDD or do they have to be restored/reinstalled individually ?

You could copy the entire \extensions\ folder from the old Profile to the new Profile, but you'll have to reset all the preferences for those extensions.
