I just updated from FF 57 to FF 58.0.1 this morning via the popup message that a new version was available. All seemed to go fine as in previous updates but I immediately noticed that my Firefox quick launch taskbar icon had changed to the generic windows icon. Tried to restore the FF icon using the icon's properties option but no success.

More disturbing to me was that the update also removed the Mozilla folder, which contained the FF shortcut, from my Start Menu>All Programs menu. Firefox 58 still functions and opens via the taskbar shortcut and I see that the program folder itself is still there in my Program Files.

Any suggestions to fix appreciated.

System is Windows 7 Home Premium and is fully up to date with all patches. No indications of malware after scanning with Bitdefender and Malwarebytes. I can provide images if requested.

2 other computers with Firefox on Windows 10 also have been updated to 58.0.1 but no issues there.

Updating my OP. The icons for FF are now displaying correctly. I just kept using icon>properties to change them to a different icon and then back to the FF icon. They are displayed properly in the taskbar and on my Start Menu.

The Mozilla folder (which contains a FF shortcut) is still missing from my Start Menu>All programs.

Tried the option of changing and restoring the icon but that did not work.

I also tried creating a new shortcut on the desktop and pinning THAT to the taskbar. That taskbar icon works, but then when actually launching Firefox 58 a SECOND generic icon appears on the taskbar and the pinned shortcut is not highlighted (i.e. as if it's not active).

Eclipse had the same problem several years ago, and it took them almost a year to find the solution.

Firefox updated to 58.02 now. As stated earlier, all FF icons are appearing normally but the Start Menu>All Programs>Mozilla folder is still missing.
