When I attach a picture file to a message, it embeds the file below the message rather than include as a separate attachment. How do I fix?

Sending document files as attachments to emails works fine. But sending picture attachments will include the picture as an attachment, as it's supposed to, but also embeds the picture file in the email message below the text. How can I correct this so that the picture file is an attachment only, and not included in the actual message?

I think you're describing something that Thunderbird does. Other email clients may or may not do this.

Certain attachments, such as jpegs and text files are displayed automatically. It's a feature. They are not embedded. You can turn it off by going to:

View|Attachments Inline

and clear the tick.

Please understand this is how Thunderbird shows received messages. The setting doesn't affect your sent messages.
