Here is the scenario. I am ready to pull my hair out one piece at a time. I have Mozilla Firefox 16..just updated. AOL is my email provider and has taken over as my home page. I hate them with a passion. I have Facebook on Mozilla and do not seem to have problems with it. I pay for and play Pogo....it always gives me this yellow bar saying some plug ins are out of date. So I hit update....go the page and update what it tells me to....right ? Wrong !! It does not work.

I cannot get rid of this bar. I want to reset my firefox to factory settings, but because AOL has taken over as my home page, I am unable to follow the instructions you have given me. I am about to lose my mind ....I know AOL is the problem, I just do not know how to handle this.

Do the following:

Update your plugins. You have Adobe Flash and Reader that are listed as out of date. You can update them all by downloading http://ninite.com/flash-java-reader/ninite.exe. (Close Firefox before updating)

Then, to Reset Firefox, read Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

You can also try to delete the pluginreg.dat file in the Firefox Profile Folder and maybe addons.sqlite as well to reset the plugin registry databases.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder
