After installing win 8 I get no useful input when using the numbers row, shifted or normal. This also happens in IE 10. the numbers pad works fine, with numbers lock of course. All keys give normal input in Word 2010 or word pad. I can find no information to suggest that there is a different layout specific to Firefox or IE 10 that Win 8 dropped on me I am using a logitech wireless keyboard and even upgraded to a new MK 550 and the problem has not resolved. While I have requested help from windows they haven't replied yet. When you press any key on the numbers row you usually get the last letter typed in plain text but sometimes a space. without copying and pasting from word pad or the like I cannot enter an email address. the fact that all keys give normal results in word etc suggest to me that the keyboard layout has been changed for the browsers but I cannot find out how to confirm this and if it is so to change it

Did you check which keyboard layout IE and Firefox are using?

Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.

I do not know if this has changed in Windows 8

I don't have multiple languages in this version of Win 8 so no language bar to open or check. Is there any other keyboard layout information available?
