Current version: Thunderbird set up 102.4.1 (32-bit), Windows 10 Thunderbird Configuration: Multiple inboxes are configured to different pop3 email accounts. Message filters exist to move received emails from these inboxes to appropriate subfolders under 'Local Folders'. Please note that my configuration has 'Local Folders' in a separate directory (C:\MyMailTB) to the default Thunderbird Profile Folder under which the Inbox file is located (C:\Users\xxxx\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\600277ru.default\Mail\pop.gmail.com).

This configuration has been operating for several years with no problems but since installation of a Thunderbird version around 23/9/22 (probably 102.3), and all subsequent versions, I observe the following behaviour:

When emails are received they correctly appear under Local Folders in the subfolders specified by the message filters and not in the inbox, and the file size shown against the inbox corresponds to the size of the emails which were received - so far so good. BUT if I select the 'Compact' function on the inbox its size remains unchanged - it does not go to zero (blank) as expected.

It suspected that the moves in the filters are correctly copying the emails from the inbox to the local folders and removing them from the inbox .msf file BUT not from the inbox file itself. I confirmed this by selecting 'Properties' on the inbox and then clicking the 'Repair Folder' button. This caused the moved emails to reappear in the inbox (whilst of course remaining in the local folders to which they were copied).

A second problem that is probably related but is not reproducible is that on two occasions (after an install of a new version?) I started up Thunderbird, received an alert that mail had been received but found no trace of the new emails in the local folders or inbox. Instead the inbox was populated with previously received and moved emails - in the same way as I observed by manually clicking the 'Repair Folder' button. Viewing the gmail account in a web browser confirms that there are emails which should have been downloaded to Thunderbird. I have tried to avoid this problem by unchecking the server setting to 'Check for new messages at startup' and have not encountered it since.

Oops, last step in image should be labelled '6: Delete the emails in the inbox and compact again:'.
