Starting today, with firefox 102 (on Ubuntu 20.04), I cannot open a url using the address bar. If I enter a url and then hit Enter, it brings up my selected search engine looking for that url, not opening the url itself. This has not happened before today. Is there a way to use the address bar only for opening addresses, and use the search bar for searching?

Well, I started the computer this morning, and the problem seems to have gone away -- entering a url in the address bar goes to the url, not a search. Don't know why this happened, and I cannot replicate it, so maybe some kind of junk from some website got in there. But my original complaint remains: my preference would be that the address bar be used solely for entering urls; "suggestions", searches, and the rest of that stuff should be confined to the search bar, and keep the address bar clear of it.

Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla, run it from the folder and see if you have the same issue with the add-on. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release
