Something is deleting my passwords in FF. Mostly when my laptop is in sleep mode, or when in game mode without the firewall set to game mode. But as is, if I use the firewall to stop everything behind, there is still something that starts and deletes my passwords when it think I am not using the laptop... Is there something that will protect the passwords in FF? Anyone got an idea of what can be doing this?

I am not visiting bad websites, I surf carefully, Windows is always up to date, as is my firewall and antivirus program. I have not downloaded any programs. It all started after my update of the program System Mechanic was done. So now I am in a support war with them, but they say I am the only one with this problem... I'm getting an ulcer here... :-(

Any ideas out there on what can be the problem or having a solution?

I am not visiting bad websites. . . .

It's not just 'bad' websites. Many times 'good' websites get hit with a virus and it gets passed on to us.

You may have ad/mal-ware. Further information can be found in this article; https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware?cache=no

Run most or all of the listed malware scanners. Each works differently. If one program misses something, another may pick it up.

What about the rest of your profile? history, bookmarks, settings . . . .

Profile data can be removed or not recorded in several ways;

  • 1) Running Firefox in Private Mode (nothing is recorded)
  • 2) Privacy settings; (In the address bar, type about:preferences#privacy<enter>)
  • 3) Many disk cleaners and anti-virus type programs can remove data from browsers. Open their settings and have them leave the browsers alone.
  • 4) Mal-ware.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Try rebooting the computer. Anything?

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Thank you for all the hints on what to do. First of all, them programs to find malware etc etc, found about 50 warnings. Here I sit and think a known firewall and antivirus can handle these malwares - but no. But yes, they are always a few steps behind the criminals and hackers, as new tools keep them on their toes, but as is, too late for many people.

And yes, surfing the internet on so called safe sites, seems not so safe after all. Companys are hacked for passwords and email addies even though they are safe. Well, not going to type a book here. Thanks very much for them hints, my friend ;-) Cheers

Anti-virus programs do a good job, but malware is a different type of program, and some anti-virus don't work on them.
