Since I installed the Firefox update, much delayed response generally + inundated w advertising on homepage - why?
Cursor, keyboard typing, touchpad all slow to respond. Browsing slow to open pages. Everything is jerky, delayed. I tried the refresh, but to no avail. Have done most of the things on the troubleshooting pages suggested for delay/crashing.
MOST aggravating is the sudden appearance of loads of advertising on web pages I've been using frequently, including Youtube that involve streaming. This didn't used to be anything like as bad.
Only using streaming for TennisTV channel or Eurosport, FilmOn TV , and Youtube tennis match replays No extensions or Add-ons and All my few plug-ins (eg Picasa, silverlight, Google update are on 'Request ' to activate except Shockwave which is on always activate for the Tennis TV channel, but due to problems with THEIR update, I went back to the Adobe 18.0 version of that one and that fixed those streaming problems.
Also noticed a delayed audio as others have mentioned - but only in one Youtube clip to date.,

hello, judging by those symptoms you probably have malware present on your system. please perform all these steps:
- reset firefox (this will keep your bookmarks and passwords)
- afterwards go to the firefox menu ≡ > addons > extensions and in case there are still extensions listed there, disable them.
- finally run a full scan of your system with different security tools like the free version of malwarebytes and adwcleaner to make sure that adware isn't present in other places of your system as well.
- update your plugins (some of them are out-dated & have security vulnerabilities that are actively exploited on the web).

Well thanks for replying so quickly Philip but like I said:

and only have a few plug-ins, none continuously activated but the shockwave one and that caused streaming issues when I updated it, so followed Forum advice and re-installed 18.0 version
and I use Systems Mechanics Pro and only just performed a deep scan, so don't think that is the problem, frankly.
The problem seems to be the Updates actually. And not just for me apparantly.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.
