My homepage redirected to "hao123"(http://www.hao123.com/?tn=97473572_hao_pg) when I start firefox, even though the homepage is set to www.yahoo.com. I still can use home button to get to www.yahoo.com. This happens after I download a game "diggerxp" from http://digger-xp.en.softonic.com and installed it. I noticed that there are 3 software that was installed at the same time, then I uninstalled all of them (one of them is speed cleaner). Bellow is the things that I have tried. 1. uninstalled all programs that I recently installed 2. changed the homepage in tools->general. 3. remove all addons by using safemode. 4. checked the shortcut on desktop to make sure target is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" 5. deleted all registry keys that contain key word of "hao123", "softonic" 6. reset firefox from troubleshooting. 7. uninstalled firefox, deleted folder both in "program files (x86)" and "C:\Users\wenbo\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla", use cceaner to fix all problems, then reinstalled firefox (this is a clean installation). 8. use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware to clean my system.

None of the above methods solved my problem, the hao123 still open up every time I start firefox, it is so damn die hard malware that is still hidden somewhere in my computer. Is there any super hero in firefox can help me to remove "hao123"?

Thanks

Hello there,

You can try this method:

Type "about:config" on your Firefox URL and press enter, then click on "I'll be careful I promise", type "hao123" on the search box underneath the URL, then reset all strings with "hao123" - right click and choose "reset"

Hope this helps :)

Hi, @Machine Master, I tried that before, when I type hao123, there is nothing showed up. I solved it by reinstalled the whole system. This website should be sued for adding this to the Browser, since it is so hard to remove, and annoying.

You can check for recently installed suspicious or unknown extensions.

You can check in "Windows Control Panel > Programs" for recently installed programs to see if anything from Conduit or any other suspicious software like Search Protect shows up.

  • Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > Uninstall or change a program
  • Click the Installed column to sort by this heading
