How do I change the order of sites when typing in the adress bar?

more options

I usually type "go" in the adress bar if I want to go to google, then it automatically finishes and I just click enter after "go", but lately another site has taken the place so when I click enter I come to the wrong site. I have not searched for this site more than google. How can I decide which one will be the automatic one? It's really annoying!

If autofill (browser.urlbar.autoFill = true) is enabled then you may not get a drop-down list, but Firefox will autocomplete the entry automatically.

You can bookmark this web page and set a keyword to the bookmark to make Firefox open that page if you type the keyword.
You can set a keyword in the Bookmarks/History Manager (Library) via the Details pane at he bottom right.
You need to click the More button to make the Keyword line appear.

Note that bookmarks with a keyword also can take a parameter, specified via %s or %S, that is appended to the URL.

I think you can remove suggestions from the address bar by arrowing down to the unwanted site on the auto-suggest drop-down list and pressing Delete.

Make sure to arrow to another site or edit the address before pressing Enter or using Go, because that deleted URL will still be the address bar.

Does that work?

how do i know if browser.urlbar.autofill=true? i'm having a similar problem, where i type go and it used to come up as google in the address bar and i pressed enter. but now i type go and nothing comes up, its only showing different options in the dropdown menu but not coming up in the address bar. i want to be able to type go and just press enter without having to scroll down the dropdown menu and clicking on the website i want. thank you!

Hi rochel, you can check using Firefox's about:config preferences editor.

(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.

(2) In the search box that appears above the list, type or paste urlb and pause while the list is filtered

(3) If the browser.urlbar.autoFill preference is bolded and user set to false, you can double-click it to switch its value back to true.

Does that work?

If it changes back after you switch it, check this article: How to fix preferences that won't save.

Actually, I turn it off myself, so I don't have any personal experience that would help with why yours isn't working.

To see whether one of your add-ons has altered how the address bar works, could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to bypass interference by extensions (and some custom settings). More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

Hi rochel, I found your post about the crashes: Firefox crashes. Could you check the reply there and dig up those crash IDs? Sometimes those point to the solution, or at least a workaround.
