It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?
Whenever you have a problem with Firefox, whatever it is, you should make sure it's not caused by one (or more than one) of your installed add-ons, be it an extension, a theme or a plugin. To do that easily and cleanly, run Firefox in safe mode (don't forget to select Disable all add-ons when you start safe mode). If the problem disappears, you know it's from an add-on. Disable them all in normal mode, and enable them one at a time until you find the source of the problem. See this article for information about troubleshooting extensions and themes and this one for plugins.
If you need support for one of your add-ons, you'll have to contact its author.
If the problem does not disappear when all add-ons are disabled, please tell me, so we can work from there. Please have no fear of following my instructions to the line, as all can be easily undone.
Hello, I have the same problem. It worked fine until I upgraded weeks ago to the newest version(that was updated to 3.6.8 few days later). It happens when you navigate using tabs(sorry I don't know the word in english, it opens whenever you press ctrl+t).
I have noticed that the problem mainly occurs when you close the hotmail tab. If you just open it and navigate in the hotmail page doesn't happen. And if you keep it open and switch between tabs it doesn't happen.
If you close the tab it happens at the moment, and if you keep it, it may happen in a while. It also looks to just hang once each time you open the hotmail tab. If you close and reopen it it will hang again, if you keep it won't hang more than once.
I also disabled all the addons restarting in safe mode and nothing changed.
In the previous versions it didn't happen.
It also looks that the font size in hotmail web has changed to a smaller one without changing the configuration.
Maybe has something to do with no closing session when closing tabs, or in the refresh protocol when the tab is inactive and you keep logged in hotmail. It may also has something to do with the new feature in hotmail web that allow you to chat with your msn contacts.
Greetings.
no the problem is not solved yet i still have the problem.I agree with captainscott that it might be the new features of hotmail that is causing the problem but if i use internet explorer hotmail works just fine. I also tried disabling all addons and themes and used in safe mode, still didn't worked.

Can you please try it in a new (temporary) Firefox profile and see if the issue is still present? See this article to know how to create a new Firefox profile. Please report back the results.
I tried for a while changing the profile. I created a new one, placed into a different folder, in the desktop (don't think it has nothing to do), and started opening and closing hotmail tab, writting mails, using the web-messenger feature, and using other tabs. And it didn't hang. It went fine all the time.
I loaded again firefox with my default profile, and the problem was there. So it's something in the profile. Maybe it got corrupted while updating firefox or something. I'm trying next to export favourites, tool's and addons to a new profile and see what's wrong.
Right now I can tell, creating a new profile ends the hanging problem in hotmail.
Hi there, I have also created a new profile and begun moving things back one by one e.g passwords, form history, bookmarks etc. None of which have caused an issue. I was wondering seeing as how this post is so old if you ever resolved it. As it would be a lot quicker for me to just remove/fix what is wrong with my old profile rather than copying things one at a time over and re-testing each time. I know i probably should do it for myself but its always nice to get others help too. Any help is much appreciated.
Ok so i don't mean to spam this but now i've just erased all my cookies from my original (default) profile and i opened one tab with hotmail in it and a second with a few different sites browsed happily for quite sometime closed hotmail and re-opened it multiple times and not one crash? So it would seem it is fixed. However i will re-post if it happens again.
