Since the recent update, I can't visit Twitter or Gmail

more options

If I type in the URL for Twitter or Gmail and press enter, the address bar simply goes back to whatever was in there before. This is whether I do it in a tab or a new page. BBC News is fine. Facebook is fine. Gmail and Twitter were pinned as tabs before the update. Other tabs are broken in the same way, e.g. Google Photos, but Google Calendar and Google Drive tabs are fine. Please help!

Just sayin' I have exactly the same problem since auto-update 74.0 on my Win 10 laptop this morning and I've also logged a similar question in the forum. I use login pages for Twitter, Wordpress.com and Gmail constantly, Twitter login was my home page and they're all on Toolbar. None of these links will work since the 74.0 update and I have to use Chrome which still functions fine. Really annoyed with FF.

Hi chris12dec, past advice related to that diagnostic result was as follows:

(1) Next Gen Storage Setting

This setting is normally false (off) but in case it somehow got turned on, see the steps in the following article: Some pages or page elements fail to load after updating to Firefox 70.

If that doesn't fix it (after a restart, perhaps):

(2) Have Firefox Generate New Storage Folders

This will cause loss of some data saved locally by websites and add-ons.

Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

In the first table on the page, on the Profile Folder row, click the "Open Folder" button. This should launch a new window listing various files and folders in Windows/File Explorer.

Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Exit
  • (menu bar) File > Exit

Pause briefly while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then double-click into the storage folder.

Right-click default and Rename to something like defaultOLD -- the purpose of renaming instead of deleting is the possibility of reinstating the old folder or mining it for essential data.

If you have a high tolerance for experimentation, you could find the subfolders for the sites that are not working and just rename those folders. Note that there may be more than one folder per site.

Start Firefox back up again. Do sites work?

Hi, I followed the instructions for suggestion 2 and it worked, although I found again that entering www.twitter.com didn't work still, but the back button started working again, so I could get back to Twitter and the other sites, and at that point I also found that entering the url worked. Thanks a lot for your help.
