Messenger and the the Notifications pull-down menu on Facebook are non-functional using Firefox.

The Messenger page cycles and then goes blank, but with the full top-menu items showing.

When I try the Notifications pull-down it just cycles, and never shows the notifications.

These two FB features work perfectly on Safari.

Is this a Firefox problem, or a FB problem?

Yeah, I think it's clearly time to file a bug report.

Please.

May I suggest that first you wait and see if someone else will come up with the perfect solution for you  ?

If that doesn't happen (give it some time, we're dealing with different time zones) then you could file a bug report :

@ ipattis and jgary : Apologies if this is a rethorical question, but have you checked the settings for notifications in : Preferences => Options => Privacy & Security => under "Permissions"  ?

I'm not sure if this would affect Facebook notifications, but would you do this please (it's worth a try) :

When you're on Facebook (using Firefox), click on the 'i' in a circle, next to the padlock at the left side of the address bar.

Then click on the little black arrow on the dropdown (next to 'Connection') and then on "More Information", which will take you to "Page Info".

Click on the 'Permissions" tab and scroll down to "Open Pop-up Windows". Uncheck "Use Default" and check "Allow".

Then close and restart Firefox.

Another thing to try :

Type in the address bar about:config and press Enter (promise to be careful, if asked)

Type in the search bar notifications

Look for the preference dom.webnotifications.enabled

and set its value to true

(and maybe check other preferences as well)

Then close and restart Firefox.

If that doesn't make a difference, then change the values back.

'Hope that helps (fingers crossed .... )

If none of the suggestions work, then I'm all out of ideas (other maybe than to file a bug report) ......

None of this is actually pertinent to the problem (not intending to be snippy)...and from the get-go I have been all up & down Firefox's prefs page looking for anything that might impact this issue while working within a logged-in Facebook account.

The "notifications" (and other pull-down menus on FB) we are referring to have nothing to do with the areas of "privacy & security" & "notifications" you are referring to on the Firefox preferences page.

I would prefer to continue to use Firefox as my exclusive browser, but right now I cannot do that...I have to open up Safari to actually have functional use of Facebook.

This needs to be escalated (and fixed)...or I can discard use of Firefox, and I'll go back to Chrome of Safari.

Thanks for your help.

This really seems to be a problem on MAC - I just saw another user report this :

Looks alike, but not quite the same, though ..... (?)

I'm not sure it's a Max problem because Facebook works on Safari on Mac and not Firefox on Mac,,

I didn't say that it's a Mac problem, but a problem on Mac, but of course it could be mere coincidence that you all are on Mac.

And then of course I meant a problem with Firefox on Mac.

(I'm neither on Mac nor on Facebook, so I can't check any of this myself)

Good for you  !

Could you give us a link to that bug report , please  ?

@ jgary :

You said you filed a bug report .....

But you are talking about your posts in threads though, and not about filing a bug report.

Well, maybe the OP of this thread (lpattis) will decide to file a bug report ..... (?)

I don't know how to file a bug report directly with Mozilla/Firefox.

Please elucidate.

The only perfect solution will occur when Mozilla finds and fixes the bug in their latest release.

Suggestions a magic fix will occur is nothing short of nonsense.

I posted quite a few suggestions - the last one was to consider filing a bug report, but to first wait and see if maybe someone else will come up with the perfect solution for you.

But as I'm clearly wasting my (spare) time trying to help you : goodbye.
