An important bookmark folder (with a LOT of listings) just disappeared!
A year or so ago I changed from Internet Explorer to Mozilla Firefox. Someone helped me at the time, figuring out how to move my IE Favorites to Mozilla Bookmarks, and then secondly how to have the Folder list (alphabetically) at the top of all the other Bookmarks. I was just now using a sub-listing under one of the folders; finished and went back to the mail folder to choose another sub-listing, and the main folder just disappeared! I tried rebooting to see if that might help, but it didn't. This is a major folder that I use very frequently, that is an accumulation of years of work acquiring! I would be VERY grateful for any help!

Did you do a search for a known bookmark in that folder in case you moved the folder by accident into another folder?
If you haven't closed Firefox yet then see if you can use "Organize > Undo" in the bookmarks manager (Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks) to undo this action and restore the bookmark(s). The Organize button is the first of the three buttons next to the Back and Forward buttons on the toolbar in the Library (Bookmarks Manager). If it didn't work then you can restore the bookmarks from a JSON backup in the bookmarkbackups folder.
- Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Restore
This will replace all current bookmarks and you lose bookmarks that were added since that backup was created.

Thank you for your reply. . . . For starters, your first suggestion: I did find the missing folder in another folder (alphabetically next to the 'lost one), so how do I move it back? I didn't "search" (I wouldn't know how to do that)
Assuming that works, though, I still want to tell you:
I tried the instructions above, and I don't have a Bookmarks Manager! Under Bookmarks I only have Bookmarks Toolbar; Bookmarks Menu; and Unsorted Bookmarks. I have never found from 'Day One' an easy way to do much of anything with Bookmarks in Mozilla. My computer man had suggested I move from IE to Mozilla as I kept having problems with IE. Well, I guess the move solved that, but it was sure easier working with "Favorites" in IE. <sigh> So back to the subject, I don't have an "Organize>Undo" or a bookmarks manager actually. And I don't know a thing about a bookmarkbackups folder. I've never seen it or anything about it.

Bookmarks -> Show All Bookmarks from the Navigation Toolbar button for Bookmarks gets you to the Library window, as cor-el posted. {Ctrt + Shft + B} also opens the "Library" window which is often referred to as the "Bookmarks Manager".
There are three main Bookmarks folders and bookmarks can only be created in one of those folders and its sub folders.
- The "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder stores the bookmarks that you see on the Bookmarks Toolbar (Firefox > Options or View > Toolbars).
- The "Bookmarks Menu" folder stores bookmarks that show in the Bookmarks menu and are created via "Bookmarks > Bookmark This Page" or via "Bookmark This Link" in the right-click context menu.
- The "Unsorted Bookmarks" folder stores bookmarks that are created by clicking the star at the right end of the location bar.
You can do a cut and paste in the Library to move this folder to the position/location where it should be.
