After installing Firefox is crashes and a crash window pops up. Firefox does not even load after installation. I've tried to install and re-install it many times, and tried older version. It still has been giving me issues. What should I do in order for it to work?

If you have submitted crash reports then please post the IDs of one or more recent crash reports that have a "bp-" prefix:

  • bp-xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx

You can find the IDs of the submitted crash reports on the about:crashes page.

  • You can open the about:crashes page via the location bar, like you open a website, or open this page via "Help > Troubleshooting Information".

See:

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Yeah, I've tried installing the newest version and still crashes. I cannot make it my default browser because it crashes before opening the browser itself. Attached below is the crash report window that is displayed when trying to load Firefox (this is straight after a fresh install of the newest version).

I would also try with a clean profile. But I am not a Mac user. Make a backup of your Firefox folder and remove it to start Firefox fresh without your customizations.

Their isn't anything to backup. I don't have anything stored with Firefox. This is the first time I'm running Firefox on this machine (after reformatting).

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. Press the following shortcut to get a Run window: [Windows] + [R]. This should bring up a window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, enter %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

ok, these crashes seem to be related to hardware acceleration.

does it help when you update your graphics drivers - this should be the right link for your system: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx

otherwise please start firefox in safemode (by pressing the shift-key while it is launching) & go to firefox > options > advanced > general & disable hardware acceleration.

I've just tried to update the driver, and the issue still exists. Unfortunately, I cannot run Firefox in safe mode, because it crashes before even launching the browser.

can you access safemode by pressing windows-key + r & opening:

firefox.exe -safe-mode
