Why is deleting messages from the inbox suddenly slow?

Deleting emails from the Inbox, and just the inbox, has suddenly become slow, with about a four-second delay. This never used to be a problem, and other mailboxes are OK. This follows a Windows recovery and Thunderbird reinstall that required use of a backup profile (renamed to match the new default profile).

There are a couple of threads about this, with suggestions for mailbox repair, compacting folders, deleting msf files, creating new inboxes and trash folders. I've tried all those with no improvement.

I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 and Thunderbird is a client to a Yahoo mail account. Everything works perfectly with the copied-over back profile except the slow deletion of files from Inbox.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks for the link, which suggested a number of options. I finally solve the problem by reinstalling Thunderbird to get a brand-new profile, which did not have the slow-delete problem. Then I use the import/export add-on to pull all the emails from the previous profile.

There must have been something amiss with the backup profile I was using with the first Thunderbird reinstall. Except I had an even older backup profile with the same problem, and I think I was using the same version of Thunderbird both before and after the windows crash that required everything to be restored from backup.

So it remains a bit of a mystery, and I may check out the logs to see if there is any clarity there. But I am glad that deletes from the Inbox are now just as fast as in the other folders.
