Hi,

I have been using Thunderbird for about a month now with 2 email address's with no problems at all, until today. I tried to send an email and came accross an error which I thought was a bit odd, something along the lines of it could not connect to the outbound server or something. So I checked on another PC (this PC is on the same network as has the same email address's connected to it) and had no problems sending a test email.

I have since tried to remove the email address's and re-add them but I'm getting the following error: Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?

I know for certain the credentials are correct as they are the same ones being used on another PC and I can also connect to webmail with the same credentials no problem. I have uninstalled Thunderbird and also deleted it's cache and still have the same problem but other PC's can access it no problem?

I'm currently running windows 8.1 64bit and the mail server is on a cPanel server.

I have checked the manual settings to in Thunderbird and they are all correct .

To rule out things...

Restart Thunderbird with add-ons disabled (Thunderbird Safe Mode). On the Help menu, click on "Restart with Add-ons Disabled".

If Thunderbird works like normal, there is an Add-on or Theme interfering with normal operations. You will need to re-enable add-ons one at a time until you locate the offender.

If that is not the problem, then perhaps the Thunderbird Profile on that computer is discombobulated/corrupt/broken/faulty. Try: Create a new profile in Thunderbird for testing

Hi Bruce,

Thank's for that. I have tried without addons and also tried creating a new profile and trying again but this did not work unfortunately. It's still coming up with the original error.

Next step. Please take some screenshots/snips of things and post them in your next response. See How do I create a screenshot of my problem? to learn about screenshots.

The three things I would like you to take screenshots/snips of:

1. Showing the error message that you get.

2. The "Mail and News Accounts" section of the Thunderbird Troubleshooting Information (Thunderbird menu: Help: Troubleshooting Information)

3. The same thing as 2, but from the computer that is not having the problem with sending e-mail.

Hi,

Thank's for your reply.

Step 1 & 2 is attached. 2 does not show any mail accounts as I have removed them and tried to re-add and have so far been unsuccessful.

Step 3 = Capture.png. This is on the working machine

With some testing, I found the correct server settings for you. From the point in your first screenshot, press the "Manual config" button, then enter the settings as you see in my screenshot below.

How bizarre, copied your setup and getting this:

I see three problems here.

You can not send mail (In ability to connect to server. You can not create a new accout. You get asked if the settings or password is incorrect. You manually set your account and it can not be verified.

ALL three =of these issues are basically the same. Thunderbird is not getting out to the internet.

Cause, probably a firewall component of an anti virus or the anti virus itself. Have you tried rebooting, the important first step everyone forgets these days?

Perhaps a command line traceRT to the mail server, see if the machine can actually navigate to the mail server or has dodgy DNS entries.

The mail server uses an SSL certificate for xenotron.jetfirenetworks.com that is almost certain to cause Thunderbird to barf and the names are supposed to match. See here

Additionally the certificate used is to short for modern security so will not work with Thunderbird. You only option is undate the SSL certificate or stop using SSL/TLS connections. THe security you are using is equivalent to none. so it will be only a minor change.

The domain does fair better on non SSL testing but it still has serious issues.

Hi Matt,

As you said Anti Virus I just thought about that. I use Avast and it appear's it's mail protection componant was blocking it with no way to allow it through. After disabling it, I can connect , send and receive mail. Strange how it was working last week but not now.... Ah well

Thank you for your help though!
