The Hello app or "Start a Conversation" icon showed up in my Firefox browser tab/interface without my permission. I remember getting an email saying I downloaded Start a Conversation from the app store (itunes) and then as quickly as the email opened, it disappeared without me deleting it. I never downloaded anything like that. When the email disappeared, I thought nothing of it, maybe I pressed delete by accident and thought it was just spam anyway. Today I noticed this icon showed up in my browser without me doing anything. It is a smiley face when I hover says Start a Conversation. Did I get a virus? I'm using a Macbook Pro with Yosemite installed. How do I delete this icon? I removed it from the browser interface using Customize, but I don't know how to delete it.

Hello is a new feature in Firefox 34, and it recently was updated in Firefox 35. It allows you to begin video calls with anyone in the world for free with no account. Firefox Hello - video and voice conversations online

If you don't want to use it, just remove it from the toolbar using the Customize menu, it doesn't use up any additional resources if you aren't using it.

Just an FYI, this has nothing to do with the email regarding "Start a Conversation" you got from the App store.

Great, thanks so much! I've heard about webcams being connected by hackers and thought this might be an issue. Firefox should have a least created a welcome message or something.

You can remove it from the toolbar all you want....it comes right back. You can remove 'share this page' and it comes back. I have a post in this forum asking....How can I uninstall/delete/disable these two things ? If anybody happens to have found the way using about:config to stop these (to me) useless, intrusive apps, I would appreciate some help. Firefox 35.01

The selected solution only removes the button from toolbar, however the code, ports and connection to loop is still open and firefox can be connected using that port, which is a very good backdoor for spying!

To remove it completely one have to open omni.ja file and remove all the scripts related to loop ("start a conversation" and "share this page") which is impossible to open because its format is not a standard zip and tools to open it does not exists anymore (outdated, removed or not working anymore).

if there was a good intention of making this stuff, firefox developers could put it as an extension which was possible to enable/disable. I want it removed from my browser and don't want to see this kind of stuff on it again. If a checkbox to enable javascript makes firefox complicated, this one for sure does a hell worst job in complicating problems. JUST REMOVE IT
