FIreFox 64bit (47.0.1) will not allow me to run Webex without downloading .exe everytime.

Recently I had some issues on my Windows laptop. Amongst other things my IT guys suggested I upgrade to Firefox 64bit which I did. Now I am forced to download an .exe EVERYTIME I want to use/start/enter Webex. Is there a fix for this or do I have to use another browser? FireFox displays this message "You will need to download this application each time you join a meeting with FireFox 64-bit version"

The "plan" to eliminate all NPAPI Plugins for Firefox by year's end or early next year. https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/

I trust that WebEx has a plan for the future of their product with regards to web browser plugins.

The 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows only allows two plugins: Flash and Silverlight. As a result, WebEx can't persistently install its plugin and you end up where you are.

What were the issues you had with the standard 32-bit build of Firefox for Windows?

The 32 bit version was a bit of a resource hog (memory/cpu) and it was suggested that FF 64-bit was cleaner, lighter and more efficient. Also it was suggested Windows OS's have been coming in 64-bits for over 10 years and I should run a 64-bit browser for efficiency.

So is the plan to only allow two plugins in Firefox 64-bit? If so I need to use a different browser moving forward.

Has that turned out to be the case?

Also it was suggested Windows OS's have been coming in 64-bits for over 10 years and I should run a 64-bit browser for efficiency.

64-bit allows for much more RAM usage, which is great if your application is memory constrained. But otherwise, I'm not aware of any efficiencies -- except that dropping support for Windows XP apparently streamlines things.

Hi msalmon.

Sorry for my later response. I was trying to get in touch with the WebEx support, but was not successful. From what I know, their product should be able to run even without the Java plugin installed in Firefox, but I am not sure if it is already available for all calls and customers.

The best what I can advise now is to get in touch with the WebEx support (you or the WebEx customer who invited you to the call) and ask them, how to make their product work without the need of Java plugin installed, because it is going to be removed from most of the browsers including Firefox very soon.
