I keep getting "moved permanently" or "moved here" messages

more options

Clicking links on Twitter.com has started giving me lots of "Moved Permanently", "Moved Here", or similar messages, which seems to be related to 301 http status codes. This started roughly two months ago. Is there a setting I might have changed that would affect this, or did a recent version change how this was handled? This is a new unpleasant behavior compared to decades of browsing experience. I have as yet to find any sign anyone but me is having this problem.

This is an issue with Twitter, not anything your browser could control. You can try clearing your Twitter cache and cookies, Websites look wrong or appear differently than they should, but if this doesn't correct it there isn't much else you can do besides contact Twitter's support.

Firefox normally handles 301 and 302 redirects completely transparently in the background. There is a setting that can cause Firefox to pause and warn you about a redirect, but this feature displays a bar just below the toolbar area and doesn't change the content of the tab.

Is it possible that one of your add-ons or your security software is generating this page? To get a quick read on whether it might be one of your extensions, you could test in Firefox's Safe Mode. That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

If Firefox is not running: Hold down the Shift key when starting Firefox.

If Firefox is running: You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

and OK the restart.

Both scenarios: A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Any difference?
