All I get is a plain white page

more options

When I first logged into Mozilla Firefox, I got a brief command that it is updating the software, which happens occasionally when first starting. There was a brief command/status bar and not nothing but a plain white screen. I have ran a full deep scan on my laptop, deleted the existing Mozilla Firefox program, from "Uninstall a program" in my computer settings. I logged in to Internet Explorer and downloaded your program and the same situation, a plain white screen.

Any suggestions?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.

Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to install for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Many users are getting an all-black screen. I suspect it's the same issue, an incompatibility between Firefox 33 and some older graphics card/chipset drivers. The temporary workaround is to disable Firefox from using hardware acceleration. More info: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025438

I need more very elementary details, as if one is NOT computer savy. I do not fully understand what you want me to do. Also, if this updated version has created problems for others, can't you simply make the older version available, before this problem?

Hi ajtom, there's actually a very detailed step-by-step in the thread I linked to: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025438

The ultimate solution actually is to upgrade the software for your computer's graphics card/chipset. Firefox 32 is still available but Mozilla has already published the details on security vulnerabilities in that version, so it is not recommended. See: https://www.mozilla.org/security/known-vulnerabilities/firefox.html

I held down the shift key when starting Mozilla Firefox, but nothing happens. If I double click on M/F icon and at the same time hold down the shift, still get a white screen. So the suggestion you mentioned is not doing it. Can you web-ex in and take a look?

Hi ajtom, I actually have to log off now, but here's a final comment.

It might be that Firefox was not completely closed when you were holding down Shift. If any Firefox windows are still open, the Shift is ignored and you just get a new window.

If you can't find a way to exit out of Firefox and you want to do a blind restart of the existing Firefox window in Safe Mode, you can do this sequence on the keyboard:

Alt+h (to drop down the Help menu)
r (to "click" Restart with Add-ons disabled)
Enter (to confirm)

Then after 10-15 seconds you should get the dialog with the Start in Safe Mode button. Does that work any better?
