Some addons are not installing (claim to be corrupted), and I cannot install from xpi files (FF won't do anything with them) on Nightly versions (for example greasemonkey). How do I install them?

Nightly = 8.0a1 is three build versions beyond the current release version of Firefox 5.0 and few add-ons have been tested and updated that far ahead of release versions.

As far as Greasemonkey, the latest dev (development build) version is available here:
https://arantius.com/misc/gm-nightly/
All previous "dev" builds are available here: https://arantius.com/misc/gm-nightly/arch/
"Compatibility" is set beyond 8.0 on the latest "dev" build, so it should install without problems.

There's the ACR extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/ - that you can use to force "compatibility" with pre-release tester versions of future versions of Firefox, but that doesn't "fix" anything in the add-on itself - it only overrides the compatibility version number. If an add-on doesn't work correctly with using ACR you need to report the problems you experience with each individual extension.

As far as installing XPI's that are saved to disk, use File > Open File... in Firefox to start the installation, or drag the XPI into the browser window (on Linux you may need to drag the XPI into the Add-ons tab, IIRC).

It works fine most of the time just to drag the XPI file in a Firefox window on Linux.
Sometimes I need to try again (move the file out of the Firefox window if it is blocked).
File > Open File should always work, provided that the XPI isn't corrupted.
You can open XPI files (ZIP archives) in most file managers with the cursor Right key to check the content and if necessary edit install.rdf (maxVersion 8.*).

@the-ed sorry, but I know of all those, and no, they were not useful. I hope you understand (I'm not a firefox newbie - if not I wouldn't be running nightlies ;).

@cor-el same thing.

I fixed the problem by creating a new profile and carefully migrating everything I needed, and reinstalling all addons I needed. I still get the problem, but if I disable all addons, then I can install the ones I need.

Hiya, I had this problem, too, but I seem to have isolated the problem to only occur when the Mozilla Lab Kit is enabled.

Do you have it enabled, and if so, could you try to disable it and see if that helps?
