Firefox and Java
I am using Windows XP Pro and Firefox 41.0.1.
Is there an issue with the Java website when using Firefox Version 41.0.1?
When I go to the Java website to check that the latest Java update is installed, the box does not scan for the latest update. I checked that the latest update for Firefox was installed, cleared Firefox cookies, and closed and re-opened Firefox but the Java website is not working.
Anyone aware of this issue?
However, I can go into 'Add-Ons' within Firefox to check that the plug-ins are up to date or manually check the Java Downloads website for the latest Java version., both of which I did, and Java is up to date.

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open the Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac:<Command>) <Shift> A)
On the left side of the page, select Plugins. Make sure the ones you want to use are set to Ask or Allow.
Go to the web page. Once the page is loading, mouse to the address bar and Left click the icon. A window for displaying site information should come up. Select More Information. Now select Permissions. In the menu, Make sure the ones you want to use are set to Ask or Allow.
FredMcD:
Java is already to set to 'Ask' but the issue remains.
Can you test my issue by going to the Java website using Firefox and checking for the latest version?
The Java website is not scanning for the latest version of its own software but I can 'check' the latest version by going into 'Firefox Add-Ons' and checking that the plug-ins are up to date.

There were two steps in my last message. Did you do both?
Optional; Remove Java. Then re-install it.
Java Downloads for All Operating Systems
Make sure your Java (Not JavaScript) is up to date
Verify Java and Find Out-of-Date Versions {web link}

Confirm the above. Probably because Java is NOT supported for xp anymore. see, 1, 2, 3
if you have the latest as FredMcD said above, leave it as it is, and you are OK.
thank you
Yes, I followed both of FredMcD's steps:
First, I uninstalled Java then re-installed it.
Second, I clicked 'Verify Java' again n Java's website but it still would not scan for its own software. As a result, I manually checked the latest Java update on Java's Download website and my version is the latest.
Ideato gave me the info that I was seeking-Java is obviously no longer supported for XP so I will have to search for future Java updates .through Firefox Add-Ons.
Which Download should I choose?
Choose the 32-bit download to use with a 32-bit browser. Choose the 64-bit download to use with a 64-bit browser.
If you use 32-bit and 64-bit browsers, you need to download both 32-bit and 64-bit Java.
System Requirements
Windows 8 Desktop Windows 7 Windows Vista SP2 Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 (64-bit) Windows Server 2012 (64-bit)
Note: As of April 8, 2014 Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP and therefore it is no longer an officially supported platform. Users may still continue to use Java 7 updates on Windows XP at their own risk, but support will only be provided against Microsoft Windows releases Windows Vista or later.
