Suddenly, hyperlinks won't open Firefox unless Firefox already open

If hyperlinks appear in an email (Windows Live Mail) or on Twitter, clicking on them does nothing. BUT if I already have Firefox open, the hyperlinks work fine.

This is a new occurrence starting today. I have Firefox as my default, Windows Live Mail as my default, nothing has been changed on my Windows 7 desktop computer. I updated all the add-ons to Firefox, nothing seems to help.

Thanks for the reply. The link you posted doesn't seem to apply to Windows 7 or Windows Live Mail. I had already checked to see the correct protocols for file extensions were set to Firefox. I may have to reinstall Firefox.. ugh.

Thanks again.

Did you try to redo the default browser and temporarily set another browser as the default browser?

Yes, I changed the default to IE and all the hyperlinks worked even with browser closed. Changed back to Firefox, now hyperlinks won't work if browser isn't already open.
