I inadvertently downloaded yahoo toolbar, which I managed to uninstall, but now whenever I open a new tab, the default screen is yahoo instead of blank. How can I make the tabs be blank again when I open them? Thanks for your help.

Do you still get that Yahoo type if you start in Save mode?

  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

If it does work correctly in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

  • Use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.
  • Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Thanks for the quick reply. I just tried switching it to the default theme and I restarted firefox and yahoo still pops up as the main screen when I click on a new tab. What should I try next?
