How can I clean out the recently bookmarked entries without removing the bookmarks from the folder in the library?

When I click the star to bookmark a site it goes into the recently bookmarked area of the library. I then drag or cut or copy and past it into a folder I already have in the bookmark library, but it doesn't disappear from the recently bookmarked. If I delete it from the recent, it also gets deleted from the folder in the library. What can I do to keep it in the folder but remove it from recently bookmarked?

Chosen solution

"Recently Bookmarked" is a so called Smart Bookmark that shows the result of a place query in a list and isn't a real existing folder.

  • "Most Visited" and "Recently Bookmarked" and "Recent Tags" are examples of so called Smart Bookmarks folders and are not real existing folders.
  • Smart folders show a list created by a query of the places.sqlite database that stores bookmarks and history in Firefox.
  • Smart folder lists show a maximum of 10 entries by default.
  • Bookmarks and history items that show up in a smart folder list are stored elsewhere in another folder and any changes made are applied to the real bookmark or history item.
  • If you remove an entry then the list is shifted up and a new entry that wasn't shown previously is added to show 10 entries.
  • If you add a new bookmark or visit a website then a new item is added at the top and the entry at the bottom disappears from that list.
  • Items that disappear from the list are not gone, but merely do not show up anymore in that list.
  • Actions like copy & paste or delete that you perform on bookmarks in such a list are done on the original bookmark.
  • If you do not want a specific list then remove that query (right-click: Delete), but do not delete the content that is displayed in such a list.

No, currently there is not a way to do this.

When you click the star, the actual bookmark goes into "Unsorted Bookmarks". If you double-click the star instead of single clicking, you can immediately assign it a better location. Your most recently used bookmark folders are listed, and if you click the button that looks like a "v" on the right you can expand a "tree" view of all your bookmark folders. (Double-click a folder name to open or close it, or click the triangle icon to its left.) Hopefully that will save a step or two.

Thanks for the explanation.
