I just updated to Firefox 32. When I have FF open but hidden in my Dock on my Mac 10.6.8 it will not open links from my email in Outlook 2011 for Mac. All it will do is unhide Firefox from my dock. Once FF is visible and I click the same link in my email it will open a new tab to that web page. If FF is completely closed and I click a link in an email it will launch FF and open the web page. Only when FF is already open but "Hiding" in my Dock will it not open a new tab with the web page when I click a link from email. I didn't have this problem before the update.

FYI, Firefox is my default browser. I opened Safari and have FF listed as my default browser too. When I did the update I did a brand new download and install.

Hi Justin, thank you for keeping an eye on this. It is fairly common for someone to request an uplift of the fix to the aurora version (35), and also to the beta version (34) if there is enough time for testing. Not sure whose responsibility it is to propose that.

Not fixed here either with the 33.0.2 update.

As an FYI, the incidence of this bug is now 100% when Firefox is hidden (Command-H) and an HTTP link is clicked from an external application. I cannot find a circumstance in which Firefox works as expected when the application is in the hidden state.

Bugzilla reports that a developer has fixed the issue and it's fixed in v36. The current version of Firefox is 33.0.2.

I've been running FF 34.0.5 since it was released. For me, the bug seems to have been fixed. Firefox opens and goes to every link, no matter whether FF is hidden, not open, whatever. Any link in every (external) application I've tested is working for me now. In fact, FF was hidden when I clicked the link to this discussion in my email client (Outlook for Mac).

I see that Bugzilla is reporting the issue as "fixed," also: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1017595#c79

Agreed. I am on Firefox 34.0 and links from third-party applications appear to be working reliably even when Firefox is in the hidden state. I'm running Mac OS X 10.6.8 and this issue had been happening in 100% of cases prior to v34.

Thanks for the fix. Will let y'all know if I see any of the previous behavior crop up!

I switched to the V34 beta a while back as soon as it was confirmed on the bug report that they had pushed the fix to that version and can also confirm it has been resolved.

Looks like update V34.0 has fixed this problem! Third party application links are opening when FF is hidden in my dock. Thanks!

Curious how to get version 34.05 - I clicked the upgrade to 34 button and hopefully the bug is fixed - but beta versions always seem to have bugs - where is the .05 version to be found?

The latest release version is 34.05, so it is not a beta.

To upgrade, click on Firefox from the menu bar, then About Firefox. If there are any updates, they will be downloaded and applied and you will be prompted to restart the app.

At least on OS X, Firefox shows as at 34.0, but this is actually 34.05. It is a release version, as cdanr mentioned. v34.0 does appear to have fixed the issue with the third-party apps not launching in Firefox when the app is hidden.
