Starting in Firefox 23, the address bar search service is tied to your search bar search service. This prevents hijacking by third party software, but some users prefer to use different services for each bar. If you want to do that, there is an add-on:

Is this the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar or a search bar on the eBay web page?

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension only runs once and then uninstalls automatically, so it won't show on the "Firefox > Add-ons" page (about:addons).
