I agree... 110% garbage

uninstall all firefox. install latest 3.6.6 firefox without any additional plugin or extension and using latest adobe flash player 10.1

also configure timeout to -1 in dom.ipc.plugins configuration

give the same results, hang everytime i run you tube or watching fifa live score.

now uninstall firefox and re-install with 3.6.3 and getting fine. However some time still automatically crash if i open many tabs (> 30 tabs) that contains youtube or other flash

I will try Chrome to compare before made final decision whether should use firefox or chrome :)

Hello there. I have the same problem - on top of the memory leak! I'd like to keep using Firefox, but it became so buggy that I can't stand it anymore. Now I'm fed up with Firefox and I'm looking for alternatives. Just tried Chrome a little bit and I think it sucks. Then tried Opera and think it's good - but sucks too, because it's closed source and doesn't provide add-ons (only dumb widgets which are not really extensions and suck badly). Apart from that, there's no proper smooth scrolling available for both, Opera and Chrome. Their smooth scrolling features are a joke compared to beautiful FF add-on Yet Another Smooth Scrolling. But as for the plugin-container.exe bugs and the memory leak, FF is unbearable.

1 tab open on nytimes, Opera out of the box vs FF with add-ons that make it equal to Opera's functions:

Opera - 77 Megabyte RAM Firefox - 170 Megabyte RAM + 15 MB for pluging-container = 185 MB

Firefox is the biggest memory hog every!

Firefox is crashing a lot for me lately and plugin-container.exe isn't helping, because each time it crashes, so does Firefox. >_

Bullshit @JYOuyang. This is not the flash player timing out or freezing. This is a new problem introduced by Mozilla in FF 3.6. This is a TERRIBLE version of FF and renders it unusable. I certainly hope Mozilla fixes this "plugin container" B.S. soon.

Plugin-container.exe has completely hosed up my system. I can't watch a video for more than 30 seconds without maxing out my cpu.

I am sticking with it. Mozilla has always ran around 137k but IE has stood just higher in usage running the same pages and amount of windows open. Opera, it is to bland and ugly.

As for you people running 100% cpu usage it is not cause by FF or this plug-in. I am running 5% cpu usage 137k memory usage by FF and 7.4k on the plugin. That is with all my plugins enabled (cooliris, skype, 2 older versions of java and newest, greasemonkey, chatzilla) . Disabling them I am at 34k and plug-incontainer.exe is not even listed and IE shows it at 51k and another IE running at 5k with only one window open. I will do a test and put results below.

So it is your peoples add-ons that are forcing high usage in memory but as for your cpu try searching "reduce cpu usage" or clear up your virus's.

Summary with FF add ons enabled. 2 browser windows (same pages for both browsers)

• • • NOTICE the difference? IE runs seperate processes for each window and another odd ball one running a low memory usage. Wonder what that extra iexplore.exe process is? Where-as FF combines its process and runs plug-in container seperately.

With Plug-ins disabled (which you cannot disable on IE) only ones left on are java and microsoft.net framework. 1 browser window (same page for both browsers)

iexplore.exe 51,180 memory usage iexplore.exe 5,873 memory usage 3-6% cpu usage

Again IE is running higher memory usage and that oddball unexplainable smaller iexplore.exe is running.

Some of you people just need to upgrade your crappy systems, update your programs (most likely you are p2p thief and don't) And learn how to utilize, use and tweak your machines. If not then cry to yourselves because you are the only ones at fault.

Firefox has crashed once too often due to this plugin-container. I'm back to IE for the time being....Hope to be back soon if this is solved.

Face it guys, it all went downhill from 3.6.4.

I'm sorry to say, but it seems firefox can go only worse from now on.

I'm having major problems with flash player. Firefox crashes on every site that has even small flash banner on it. Hope you will do something about it very soon, or I'll be forced to change browser.

If you're having problems with your Flash plugin, you need to contact Adobe for support.

Why is it when the plugincontainer.exe pops out my Firefox is already logging????

The very same Flash player works fine in both Opera and IE. Thus it's a Firefox problem.

@ Anonymous "The very same Flash player works fine in both Opera and IE. Thus it's a Firefox problem." That's not correct. The Flash plugin for Firefox is not the same as the Flash plugin for Internet Explorer. It is the same as the Opera one though.

But where it works or doesn't work is irrelevant. Mozilla cannot fix a bug in Adobe Flash, and Adobe has to make sure their software is compatible with their users' browsers. Other than that, there really isn't much else I can tell you...

I disabled all plugins and all extensions, and uninstalled all themes (except default) and personae. Still crashes within 3-4 minutes. Not that it should matter, as it was disabled, but I also have the most recent versions of Flash and Director. My system has 6gb of RAM, so it isn't a resource issue with my computer either.

I know it can be frustrating to have people reporting a problem that shouldn't be there and you can't replicate, but this is not an issue with Flash (and doesn't appear to exist between keyboard and chair, either). Please stop attempting to transfer blame elsewhere. It is a FF 3.6.6 issue.

plugin-container.exe uses more resources that firefox itself. its really bogging my netbook's resources. i did not have this problem prior to the latest update. this is not good at all.

Stick with 3.6.3 everyone. Last stable version of Firefox. RIP

@ Brad Please try creating a new temporary Firefox profile: managing profiles. This is just for diagnostic purposes. See if the new profile has the same issues, and report back the results, please.

@ Anonymous Version 3.6.3 is not recommended as it doesn't include the latest security fixes. If you want a secure version of Firefox that doesn't have plugin isolation, please use 3.5.10.

YOU SUCK, if you have a problem with Google Chrome, you need to contact Google, since they are the ones that develop it. Be mindful that the big amounts of RAM it uses up when browsing multiple tabs is not a bug, but rather a "feature" of Chrome. Also, be mindful that the impossibility of having many tabs in the same window is not a bug, but rather a "feature" of Chrome. Bear in mind, in addition, that the relatively poverty of add-ons for Google Chrome is not as much due to its age as it is to the impossibility of developing add-ons for it that are as rich as those for Firefox. Don't forget either that the fact that Chrome will send, by default, potentially private information to Google is not a bug, but rather a "feature" of Chrome. You may also end up finding the very same problems you found in Firefox, if those were due to careless usage of add-ons or an infected system. For any usability problems, you will need to contact Google directly, too.

Also, if you are using another browser out of spite or because you can't fix your problem with Firefox, I will remind you that Mozilla is a non-profit, public service organization, and, as such, doesn't have the same financial interests Google (or any other company developing a major web browser) does. Mozilla's objective is that you, the user, use the browser you want, be if Firefox or any other browser. If you want to use Firefox but can't, due to a problem, I'm glad to work with you the best I know and can to fix it. If you actually want to use another browser, then I'm happy that you finally found your "home", and my job is successfully done.
