Since the move to the new style of tab (not attached to the content) tapping the X on the tab does not close the tab on the iPad. I have to click the icon to show thumbnails of all tabs and close it there. This is more like on the iPhone where there are no tabs. Please fix this as it requires too many taps to close a tab that way.

Also, when starting up Firefox on iOS now, the url edit field is active, showing the keyboard. Since most people will be using a bookmark or shortcut, which is hidden by the keyboard, this is annoying. Do not activate the url edit field unless it is tapped!

Thanks!

Hi, are you able to share what iOS version and Firefox version this is happening on?

more options

Firefox 35.0 (5448) running on an iPad Pro 10.5 inch running iPad OS 4.7.1

There is also a long thread on this at Github at https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/firefox-ios/issues/8613 that includes a couple of videos showing exactly what happens.

The issue has been going for two months.

WTF? Why (8/18/21) is this still not addresses? Not a major bug. Can I take a shot at the code? As a super duper amateur, student, I’m fairly confident I could still find and implement a solution in a couple days tops. This is the unsolvable problem with “open source” or “non-profit” models in general. There is no motive, aside from some assumed abstract and subjectively valued “desire” of the developers/contributors. I’m fairly certain that if this bug was hemorrhaging a cpl thousand paid users (canceling a pay-per-period subscription for example) from a private, “for-profit”, company a solution would be found or created, person/s responsible for release with bug fired or penalized, and person/team responsible for amazing 24 hour “rewrite”/fix rewarded (assuming not same as responsible, otherwise “not-fired” is reward). In this instance, incentives are not aligned with user satisfaction since users aren’t customers, apparently no one at Mozilla gives 1/2 a fuck about the many, many, (maybe 10-15% total browser market- increasing daily upon update) users suffering from 100’s (small hyperbole) of un-closable tabs on a browser on a screen that’s 5-12 inches max for OVER 2 MONTHS NOW!!!

I’m uninstalling Firefox from all 3 of my devices for a min. of 6 months, since thats the only action available to me that expresses the extreme frustration and disappointment i feel toward Mozilla for their complete apathy toward me and the million or more other users like me.

Whatever your response is to this comment, I will quote my ex-wife’s statement to me (upon her initiating divorce), “Too little, Too late!”
