Instead of editing yet another vcard in my new account settings I would like to import the existing address book entry (or a vcard file) into "my vCard", to be used instead of a .signature. Can this be done without copy and paste and editing prefs.js?

I don't think you can. Perhaps you might file an enhancement bug
