Latest Firefox is very slow with all extensions and plugins disabled
Firefox 53 becomes very slow and lag since 5th May. Even clicking the address bar will make Firefox hang for 10 seconds. I noticed that it is taking more than 100M memory and keep increasing and the CPU usage is always above 25%.
I have refreshed my firefox, removed all extensions and plugins, disable hardware accelerations, but the problem still exists. Running in Safe Mode solves my problem. But I cannot use the extenesions like NoScript and Firebug in safe mode.
The problem happens on the two desktop PCs, one is AMD Phenom II X4 965 with 8GB RAM, another one is Intel i7-6700 with 32GB RAM.

hi, we are currently aware of a bitdefender signature update that's causing some havoc for firefox users - are you using bitdefender security products on your system by chance? https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/69zsnj/help_super_laggy_firefox_browser_08052017/dhbles0/

Thank you. I am using BitDefender as my anti-virus. After closing anti-virus Firefox starts working again. So if I am going to use Firefox. I need to remove BitDefender?
we're in contact with them about this issue - hopefully they can roll out a fix for this with one of their next updates...
Update on bitdefender issue . If you update Bitdefender does the problem go away ?
Bitdefender FREE AV version was recently causing crashes and hangs in Firefox 53. Sometime yesterday the Bitdefender people rolled back their problem update of Bitdefender.
If you make sure your Bitdefender is fully up to date then as far as we know at present that should not have bad effects on Firefox.

We've issued a rollback while we investigate (note, this only affects AVfree users). Please try an update and see if the issue still occura.
Thanks!
Thanks a lot. Firefox works perfectly again after my BitDefender free preformed auto-update.
I am having the same problems. It started on 5-8-2017. I have uninstalled and reinstalled and refreshed firefox a few times and nothing has helped. I have the paid version of bitdefender, total security 2017. I have done sveral manual updates to bitdefender and that has not helped either. I am using a laptop with windows 7.
Dear Dakota66,
It seems BitDefender issued the update on BitDefender free version only. If the same problem happens on BitDefender Paid version, then we gonna report this to BitDefender also and see if they issue a rollback.
If you are having issues with a paid for version of bitdefender please
- Report the issue to Bitdefender to ensure they are aware of the issue.
- Make sure you are updated to the latest version.
- State what product (Full title & version) you are using.
- Test with Bitdefender enabled and disabled and confirm that makes a big difference.
- Please include some comment about the severity of the issue and the symptoms you are seeing.
- Are you only getting slowness, or do you also get crashes ? if so please let us have a CrashID from the latest crash report: visit about:crashes the string starting bp- is needed. Please see Troubleshoot Firefox crashes (closing or quitting unexpectedly)
I am making the assumpti0n that Bitdefender commented about the Free version and updated the free version because they are only aware that it is the free version that causes problems.
It does seem to be a problem with the paid version too. I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, refreshed several times, and created a new profile. Nothing has helped. The new profile started freezing too. Google chrome is working fine and I guess I will have to resort to using chrome until bitdefender gets this issue fixed that is causing firefox to freeze. I will be uninstalling bitdefender altogether and reinstalling and see if that will fix issue but it is going to be a couple of days before I will have the time to do that. If it works I will reply back letting you know it worked.
I have been having this problem, too, and I guess since around the first part of May sounds about right. I, however, am using the Norton 360 security suite with its antivirus.
I turned off the antivirus and - voila - FF ran much faster (I want to stay protected so I turned the N360 av back on).
Does anyone have insights into the FF speed problem with Norton's antivirus?
Thanks!!
It is probably best to start your own thread specifically about the N360 suite.
Post here again tovsay you started avyhrraf, and let's see if others have similar issues either with the full Norton 360 suite or just the AV. When posting please give the full name and version number, as it may only be some Norton versions having issues with Firefox. It is probably width also checking Norton's own support SD utes for advice and reports.
