I can't find any option of reloading / refreshing a web page in the drop down menus. I read in a forum someone talking about the 'Reload Button', but I don't know where to find it! Thanks for any help offered!

F5 or Ctrl+R or clicking the Reload button on the location/address bar reloads the current tab. Ctrl+F5 and Shift+Ctrl+R (<strike>F5</strike>) or holding Shift and clicking the Reload button reloads and bypasses the cache. The latter can be use if the former isn't working.

(edit: fixed typo)

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Hi   !

I usually press   'Ctrl + r'   or the   'F5'- key   ...... Hope that'll work for you as well   !

Sorry, Happy. But it's <Shift> Reload to force the website to resend the page and bypass the cache.

Sorry   Fred;   but I use   Ctrl + r   (or   F5) (you do it your way;   I do it mine   ?)

......... and that's what the question was about   (no mention of 'cache').

Actually Happy was more correct as Ctrl + R is just reload while to do the override cache Reload you are sugesting then you missed the Ctrl as you do Ctrl + Shift + R or Ctrl + F5 .

But actually you are all wrong when this is a Mac OSX user so to do override cache reload then it is Command + Shift + R

ascott the Firefox 48.0 you have is EOL and since you have the old OSX 10.6 you may not likely have the hardware to update to OSX 10.9 or later which is needed for Firefox 49.0 and later. You do have the option of using Firefox 45 ESR for security updates. The current 45.5.1 came out when Fx 50.0.2 was Released and Fx 45.8.0esr will be out when Firefox 53.0 is released.

Man, are we a bunch of nitpickers, or what  !
Thank you for making me laugh, James  !

Oops, I missed the Mac OS X.

I should have used the response I normally use instead of typing a response with errors (I did notice the type in "Shift + Ctrl + F5" instead of "Ctrl + Shift + R"; I still have some problems with remembering everything after an absence of 4 months).

My normal response would have been:

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
*Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
*Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
*Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Hi again, ascott   !
Would you be a dear and mark James' answer as Chosen Solution , so others will know and might benefit from it  ?
Thank you   !

Hi ascott, if you prefer using the mouse: you also will find a reload arrow on the context menu: right-click (Mac: Ctrl+click) a blank area of the page and check the top row of icons. This may be easier than moving your mouse pointer up to the reload arrow in the address bar.

(Note: if text is selected in the page, or you right-click a link or image, you'll get a slightly different menu that does not have the icons.)

and Hi again asccott  !

Even though not for a minute do I begrudge cor-el the credit; fair is fair : it was James who came up with the correct answer ........ So, would you be a dear and mark James' answer as 'Chosen Solution'  ? (you know the drill by now ..... ) Thank you  !

Thank you Cor-el. Yours appears to be the winning solution and I really appreciate it. Am a beginner to this forum and am not sure how to thank everyone for taking the trouble to reply. Neither am I sure how to rate the usefulness of the answers. Everyone's answers helped me but yours seemed to be 100% comprehensive. Anyway, thank you to you and everyone else!
