Me too! Although to be honest, I also had it in the previous version and I only updated today (in the hope that the problem would go away!) - but that was only this morning? Yesterday it was fine. This is a Hotmail account I've had for 20+ years and rarely had a problem with. I've logged in and out via Outlook to test the password - in fact I even changed the password to see if that made Thunderbird happy? Thunderbird is NOT happy! :-( I've deleted the old account, hence why I'm getting the "Configuration could not verified - is the user name or password wrong?" error message when I try to add the account. (This has happened to me once before to be fair - although when I deleted and reinstated the account then, I had no problems with it after that?)
It really is about time that Thunderbird properly addressed this hoary old chestnut - it's been re-occurring for years and years (look back through the questions!) and never seems to get properly resolved. Fix it, peeps! :-/
I attach a screendump of my mail account set-up window, which shows the error message, and also the settings that Thunderbird automatically puts in. (I take they ARE correct? My user name and password are most definitely correct! However, I've checked them with my other Hotmail accounts, and they're the same - so, should be no problem, right?!)
(NB. For anyone who's deleted their account, I discovered that the old entry in the SMTP list actually doesn't also get deleted - you have to do it manually. Although this doesn't actually help this situation - I was so hoping it would! Sigh...)
UPDATE - this has gone global! Apparently the Hotmail>Outlook switch has overwhelmed Microsoft, affecting most devices and 3rd party email clients - it seems that in most cases it can only be accessed via Outlook. I'm pretty sure that this is what is causing most of the problems raised here? And I suspect that Mozilla's hands are tied until this is sorted out - if ever... :-/
This is a good site to read, as it's aware of the issue, and it's easy to spot what problems others are having (and match them up with ours!):-
