HI,

It's the second time after spent a couple of days to set up new filters rules, that I miss all the new filters created.

It looks like that the system will re use the old filters that I removed or updated.

Could you help me?

Do you have multiple email accounts set on TB or just only 1? If you look on the message filter windows - can you see those filters anywhere (please check all settings by checking all possible options on "filter for")?

Thanks Vlad for your support

Yes I have 3 email accounts on TB, but that's not the problem. I attach a screenshot, to try to explain better what happened, for the second time.

For Instance, I created a filter Promo where all the promotion should be forwarded. It look like that everything works. After a week, if I checked again, the filter Promotion disappeared, and I have a again for the second time, the old filter structure.

Is it possible that TB re-use the filters stored probably in Gmail too, without synchronize the new one created on the client?

The attachment show again the old filters that I removed.

p.s. In my point of view, is like that for some reasons, TB recover old filter from somewhere (ex Gmail, or backups, or system folder) and cancel the new one created, and re-use the old one.

Thanks for your support in advance.

Filters on that server will apply before the filters from TB - far as I know TB can not overwrite but neither to load the filters from Gmail

Can you though check how many physical files for filters you have? Should be only 1 on each account... So you can find this information go to account settings - specific account -> server settings - scroll down to "local directory" -> copy that path and open it with file explorer. How many .dat files (msgFilterRules.dat) are there for each account?

Vlad,

First of all, I wanna say you thank you for your empathy:)

I attach you a screen shot of the folders that I have as child of the account folders. There something that I do not understand about the 2 folders "imap.gmail.com" and "imap.googlemail.com". In both there is the .dat file for filters.

Even if is not included in the support that I requested. As it looks that you are really expert of TB, in your opinion, as I use TB for my business, and I really need the filters rules, to walk around some limitation about my Gsuite account.

Do you suggest me, or not, to move the Thunderbird client from my laptop to a desktop PC(that I can transform in a mail server) and maintained turned on 24/7? In this way I can have the filters working 24/7. Or even I can install TB on a PC, that will work mostly for filters mail.

Thanks in advance

Those folders are for the email storage - TB is already set (with that path on local directory) what folder to use. If you have more than the accounts set on TB then those folders which are extra should be old folders (for old accounts set in the past and deleted) I'm not an expert and as good as you say - but thank you for kind words! :) I also use Gsuite and all the filters (forwarding ones) are set only in gmail (not in TB). I, personally, consider it's more easy to have those settings only in 1 side cause might create confusion if a filter on Gmail say "something" and a similar filter on TB would say "something else". As Gmail is up all the time (while my tb or my connection not necessarily) I use Gmail filters and the same I will recommend to you too...

Ref filters not saved (or actually restoring old settings) I will suggest you to make another test: -save again the new rules - and I will suggest a clear "for test" rule name. Open the "local directory" path - leave it opened. -close Thunderbird -copy file "msgFilterRules.dat" from that folder opened to desktop or any other folder for back-up purpose -open Thunderbird, check if the rule remains the same (should be OK till here) -wait till that rule doesn't apply anymore (days, weeks?) - open same folder with TB closed, get that "msgFilterRules.dat" and compare it with the one from the "back-up" - those files can be opened with any text editor and there you can see the rule name mentioned as name="..." and also the actions that tb should do...

Vlad,

Thanks for your time and patience. I going to try it.

Regarding G suite, I had same thought but some ago, as I agree with you about that is preferable to set filters on Gmail, but I got some issue Gmail the filters:

1) Retention rule, as Gmail do not allow me to set an email retention for a folder.(ex. promotion delete email 90 days old)

2) More available set options

p.s. While I'm writing you, probably I found a way to walk around the email retention, I can set up just a rule on a folder on TB while the filter on the same folder on gmail

Thanks a lot for your support

Indeed, retention can be managed from TB... Be aware though that forwarding from Gmail is made different as from TB - if TB fwd the mails then the final recipient(s) will receive that fwd from "you", while if Gmail will do the fwd then the final recipient(s) will receive that email from the original sender. So if the recipient(s) has some filters also (on their side) they will need to update them...
