hi guys, Need your help a bit, with something that's a challenge for me. So, I use TB as the main email client at work, and I need to somehow make my personal email address to allow me to send emails as someone else. I know it sounds weird, but let me explain a bit :)

So, my email is ABC, which is part of an email list, 123, which is part of another list or sort of an email address, 456, which is used for communication.

Up until now, 456 was a different account in TB, shared by a few people, if someone read an email from this account, it showed as read for everyone. Now, the account 456 is pretty much obsolete, I see it there, but it's not actually helping me. All good up until now, but because GDPR and the fact that we used very old hardware for this, we had to make a switch. Now, this was changed and all emails received/sent to 456, arrive to 123, and are routed to ABC (obvious) and who ever is part of 123. I've created a separate folder for 456 emails, problem is, if I send a reply using ABC, without CC-ing 456, no one else gets the emails. Besides the problem above, that is not OK, as 456 should be actually used for communication. The current 456 account will have to be deleted, thus, I will not be able to select it in order to reply to a certain email.

Question is, how do I create sort of an account similar to 456, within ABC inbox, that I can use to reply to an email, instead of ABC?

I am not sure if you fully understand the above, if you need any extra info, please let me know.

Thanks a lot.

All mail is now arriving in 123 email address mail account which is routed to everyone including you at ABC email address mail account. As 123 email address mail account has has replaced 456 email address mail account, Why can't you use ABC mail account email address and Cc 123 email address mail account being as that is routed to everyone?

Well, doing pretty much that, sending from ABC, CC-ing 123 or 456. However, problem is 456 is being used in some integration's, client chat and so on.

I was thinking, is there a way to set some filters on a folder, so that every time I want to answer something from that folder, it sets automatically "From" 123 or 456 and a "Reply to" 123 or 456 ? That would solve a lot of problems....

That's all a bit tl;dr for my taste.

If I needed to reply using an address that didn't need to be installed, I'd set it up using the Identity Manager as an auxiliary address on the main incoming account. That allows you to select it as a "from:" address.

Whether or not you need to install this address as a full fledged account, as opposed to as an alternate identity, your next challenge is to automatically select it when required.

There are many add-ons for Thunderbird which either select an email address automatically, or prompt the user to make a choice. Look at

Identity Chooser Correct Identity Folder Account

Hi Zenos, Alright, thanks for the info. I will test things and see, and will get back with an update within the next few days. Thanks a lot :)

Hello, So, got back with updates. Unfortunately Identity Chooser and Correct Identity are not what I need. However, Folder Account, seems to be what I need, unfortunately, I was unable to test it, since it's not compatible with the current version of TB. Do you guys another extension similar to Folder Account? Based on the extensions description, this one should do what I need.

Thanks in advance.

Who says it's not compatible?

It is installed and working here in TB 52.8.0.

Well, Managed to have it installed. it works, by the looks of it, quite nice, when I click to compose a new email it does place an auto TO/REPLY-TO of the mailing list, however, still need a bit more help.

So, for example, I send an email to someone, I have the recipient email, and the distribution list 456, as TO or CC'ed and also placed as a REPLY-TO when I send the email. Of course, when that person replies, if I click REPLY TO ALL, I have a TO set on that persons email and the 456 list there. Any chance I can make TB add the same 456 list as REPLY-TO automatically?

Right now, when I click REPLY-ALL, i have: - TO: person@ - TO: 456@ (distribution list)

This is how I want it to look when I click REPLY-ALL from a certain folder: - TO: person@ - TO (or CC): 456@ (distribution list) - REPLY-TO: 456@ (distribution list)

Thank you.

Thank you.
