Used these instructions on Thunderbird website, Tell Thunderbird where to find your Profile Folder, by using the Profile app. For example, in Windows 10, a) Close Thunderbird, b) Right-click the Start icon, c) Click Run, d) Enter this in the Open box (without the quote signs): "thunderbird.exe -p" , e) Click OK In the Profile app, create a new Thunderbird Profile for your new Profile Folder: a) Click the Create Profile button, b) Click Next, c) Enter a name for your new Thunderbird Profile (this does not need to be the same as the name of your Profile Folder), d) Click the Choose Folder button, e) Navigate to and select your new location's Profile Folder that was set up in Step 2, f) Click Select Folder, g) Click Finish Directory shows in root system and now cannot open thunderbird. Instructions were not clear if the root or local profile was to be used, I picked root and apparently that was not correct.

directory was copied from root and is now showing as root directory.

What are you talking about? You'll need to be more specific. Also, please use proper terminology to avoid confusion.

when you follow the Thunderbird instructions on migrating and your go to about profiles, there is a root directory and local directory. I copied the root directory and in old computer which is running linux and migrated it to the new computer with windows 10. Now when I try to open Thunderbird in the new computer with windows 10 I get "your thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. it may be missing or inaccessible." Regardsing terminology your talking to a person who wishes he still had his flip phone.

Thanks for the reply

Clear as mud. Please provide a link.

there is a root directory and local directory.

Please give a specific example.

Now when I try to open Thunderbird in the new computer with windows 10 I get "your thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. it may be missing or inaccessible."

Did the profile directory name change? In that case you'd also need to adjust profiles.ini to incorporate the new profile name.

Regardsing terminology your talking to a person who wishes he still had his flip phone.

I'm not blaming you. But using proper terminology will make it a whole lot easier for every one, and at the end of the day also increases your chances to get your problem resolved.
