Bookmarks search field - Turn off as default field

I have my Bookmarks open in a left hand pane. At the top is a Search field which defaults to the active field rather than the URL bar everytime I open a new window. How do I make the URL bar the default active field? FF must have done an update or something as this never used to be the case and it's annoying to create a new window and start typing a URL only to look up and find it's all in the Search field. (Mac 10.11.6, FF v56.0)

This is a bug in Firefox 56. This should no longer happen in Firefox 57.

Bug 1394207 - When firefox is opened with the sidebar open, the sidebar search box gets/steals focus, not the web page as previously

Do Mozilla staff actually read these forums that people post to when they have problems with their software? Just thought I would check.

In the meantime, Command+L selects the address bar, so you might have to develop a habit of pressing that.

On Windows and Linux you can probably use F6 to set focus to the location/address bar, but I don't know if this works on Mac (I see it listed in the keyboard-shortcuts KB article).

Thanks Gentlemen. Much appreciated. F6 does work on the Mac too, thanks. Over and out.
