Is it possible to have Thunderbird send an e-mail automatically when a message with a specific subject is received?

I basically want to create a rule that will send an automatically crafted form e-mail to the sender when I receive an e-mail with the subject line "New Swimmer". Is this possible?

Create a new Write message to be the auto sent email. Enter a Subject eg: New Swimmer Enquiry or whatever is suitable and then Save as' Template.

Tools > Message Filter click on New give filter suitable name eg: New swimmer Apply filter when: select: Manually run select: 'Getting new mail' select 'Filter before Junk Classification'

if you are only entering one condition or you want ALL conditions to be true Select: Match all of the following'

if entering more than one condition and you want ANY of them to be true. select: 'Match any of the following'

Enter a condition: SUBJECT and CONTAINS and type: New Swimmer

if entering another condition click on + to get another line.

Perform these actions: REPLY WITH TEMPLATE and select the template name from the drop down box eg: New Swimmer Enquiry click on OK

Make sure the filter is enabled.

Be aware that filters work in the order listed. So if you have a filter above the 'New swimmer' filter, could it filter any 'New swimmer' emails by a differnt condition before the 'New Swimmer' filter works? If yes, then move the 'New swimmer ' filter to the top or above any filter that could effect the email.

Thank you Todd, I was able to get it to work but I do have a few more questions...

1) When I tested this, at the top of the message, before any of the text I created, this showed up: This is a multi-part message in MIME format. --------------040406040801080102080500 Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

2) After the signature line, this showed up: --------------040406040801080102080500 Content-Type: image/jpeg Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 Content-ID: /9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQEAYABgAAD/4QAiRXhpZgAATU0AKgAAAAgAAQESAAMAAAABAAEAAAAA AAD/2wBDAAIBAQIBAQICAgICAgICAwUDAwMDAwYEBAMFBwYHBwcGBwcICQsJCAgKCAcHCg0K CgsMDAwMBwkODw0MDgsMDAz/2wBDAQICAgMDAwYDAwYMCAcIDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwM DAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAz/wAARCAC5ApUDASIAAhEBAxEB/8QA HwAAAQUBAQEBAQEAAAAAAAAAAAECAwQFBgcICQoL/8QAtRAAAgEDAwIEAwUFBAQAAAF9AQID AAQRBRIhMUEGE1FhByJxFDKBkaEII0KxwRVS0fAkM2JyggkKFhcYGRolJicoKSo0NTY3ODk6 Q0RFRkdISUpTVFVWV1hZWmNkZWZnaGlqc3R1dnd4eXqDhIWGh4iJipKTlJWWl5iZmqKjpKWm p6ipqrKztLW2t7i5usLDxMXGx8jJytLT1NXW19jZ2uHi4+Tl5ufo6erx8vP09fb3+Pn6/

(It was actually much longer than that)

Is there anyway that I can get that to go away? I obviously would prefer a nice, cleanly formatted e-mail to be sent just like I would send if I were creating it on the spot.

Thanks,

Evan

Try this: right click on the folder and select 'properties' click on the 'repair folder' button. click on ok

Select another folder and then click back on the repaired folder.

did this work?

No, I sent and received the test e-mail from a different account. The folder that I receive the initial e-mail into, triggering the automated response, I don't believe has an impact on the formatting of the template message I created that is sent.

I think this kind of auto-forwarding is much better done at the server if possible. Go to your email provider's website, log into your account there and look for the filter options they offer.

This will work 24/7, and not just while your own copy of Thunderbird is open and running.

How did you create your template? It looks rather as if header content has been copied into it. Is it plain text or html?

Zenos, I followed the directions Todd posted above. I am wondering if my signature line is causing the issue. I'm going to try to remove that and start from scratch and see if that solves the problem.

Thanks for the suggestions.
