Printing automatically to pdf instead of giving me option to choose printer

Hi, when at certain websites and I click on their print option Mozilla automatically prints to pdf and saves the file to the designated folder without asking me what printer to choose and options. How can I change it so it prints to a specific printer?

Hi sjmlee, Firefox for Windows doesn't have a built-in PDF converter, although an extension could add that feature.

Can you work around it by pressing Ctrl+p to call up the print dialog, or does the website intercept that and send a PDF anyway?

Unfortunately the Ctrl+p isn't even an option as "preparing to print" screen just immediately leads to producing pdf without even giving a preview. When I select preview option instead and ctrl-p on that it only prints that small section of preview shown on the window instead of several pages that I need printed. I don't have any extension added. Please help!

It sounds as though their page is optimized for screen viewing and that's why they generate the PDF for printing. Is this behavior unique to Firefox? Can you print in Edge without using the site's Print button or is it the same setup there?

It is unique to Firefox. It works fine in both Chrome and Edge/Explorer. After "preparing to print" screen the printer option screen pop up would appear where I can choose which printer to print but Firefox is the only browser that doesn't. All with same pages and setups.

Can you give a link to an example page or two where they have this setup? Assuming no account/login is required.

I wish I could but the one I am using requires account login :( I can record the screen and share it if you can recommend a program for that. I see it being done a lot on youtube nowadays.

Would if help to change how Firefox handles PDFs so they are previewed in the browser instead? This article has the steps for that: View PDF files using Firefox’s built-in viewer.
