The Options window opens in a TAB now in v.42.0 , not in a window (Tools / Options from Menu) and toggling browser.preferences.inContent to false doesn't help.

The Options window opens in a TAB now in v.42.0 , not in a window (Tools / Options from Menu) and toggling browser.preferences.inContent to false doesn't help, because this preferences change option was dropped in v.42.0 , but are there any other ways to return 'Options' window instead of appearing it in the new tab <--- this makes it much less comfortable to use 'Options'...

The code for the old Options/Preferences dialog was removed in Firefox 42, so there's no hidden way to display that old dialog. Perhaps an add-on will revive it?

If you want to have the Options page in its own window (still as a tab), you can right-click the the tab and Move to New Window.

Since this is a new issue this week, you could search other threads here for more ideas.

It sucks that the code was removed! Why do the Firefox developers keep removing the good features when there's nothing wrong with them? Just out of curiosity, do you remember what the code was?

Hi cje24576, you've probably noticed that over time numerous things that used to pop up in a separate window are moving into tabs. This is a long term trend and not something unique to options/preferences.

Anyway, the code I'm referring to would be several pages of layout (tags), style rules, and scripts, not something like the preferences in about:config. The "Classic Theme Restorer" extension seems to have preserved the old code and created the option to use the old window, if you want to look into that. Bear in mind that CTR has dozens of options so you'll need to invest a little time getting the setup you want once you first step out of the time machine.

The problem of Options menu starting in a second tab when you start Firefox is caused when you change your homepage. The new version reads Start Up:Home Page:Use Current PAGES (Plural) - if you change homepages using options, since the option page is also open, it makes it a second homepage, which opens as well as your chosen homepage. One solution is to go to your homepage - copy the address from the address line - go to options and paste the address in the Homepage space -DO NOT HIT Use Current PageS. Then just close the options tab - it worked for me :)
