Are pdfs set to open with the built-in viewer or an app like Adobe? Preferences/General/Files & Attachments: delete the Action for pdf, restart TB, and try to open a pdf.

Trying to stop Thunderberg from opening PDFs need to go into Preferances. This crashes Thunderberg and doesn't come up with the Preferances choices. Deleating dictionary and opening in safe mode (now Trubleshooting mode) allows the Preferances to open properly. Can change the PDF away from Thunderberg, but going back to normal mode the Not Responding comes up and Thunderberg crashes.
This happens to me when a PDF is opened in the Thunderbird program itself. Attached what Thunderbird looks like right before it crashes and here is the crash report contents. Crash Report Content
