I am unable to open just a single homepage since the last update. I have just a single website URL as my homepage, same as I have for years, but even though FF options shows only a single custom URL for homepage on launch it opens two tabs, both to the same homepage.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window

You can check the target line in the Firefox desktop shortcut (right-click: Properties) to make sure nothing is appended after the path to the Firefox program.

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage

What is the value? Right-click and select Reset to restore its default value; about:home

It turns out it was Facebook Container responsible for the double homepage. Being in Safe Mode stopped it (telling me it was an addon) and it stopped after I disabled a bunch of addons. I was safely able to turn them all back on with issue until I turned FBC back on and as soon as I did the dbl homepage issue returned. Thanks for the help everyone who posted.
