When i select word and choose from right click search google for, firefox opens a new tab and switch to it immediately. i don't want firefox to switch immediately to such tab. i may have other words to highlight and click search google for it.

so, how to make firefox not switch immediately to tabs opened by the right click search google for? also as a note in my firefox tab options the switch immediately to opened tab is unchecked and i use the latest version.

You can set the Boolean pref browser.search.context.loadInBackground to true on the about:config page.

Accidentally clicked 'not helpful' on cor-el's post, oops! This actually solved the problem tho, thank you very much. Created this account to say that.

I also created an account to express my gratitude. Thank you so much. I hate stealth changes to programs I use.

Thank you soooo much. I too hated this change in the latest update! In fact, Google Chrome handled right click and search on Google the exact same way as Firefox now does... and it was the MAIN reason I don't use Chrome!!! I always highlight and search something I don't understand or want to know more about in the middle of a paragraph. When doing this I don't want to be immediately dragged away from what I was reading, that's a very jarring and annoying action. Now I might find out if there's a similar option in Chrome to fix this like there is in Firefox, and actually make the switch over to Chrome since it was the main thing holding me back.
