I cannot get rid of Bing as my default search engine; at the bottom of the Bing search page, the following appears: By [PhotoJoy US] , part of the Conduit Network. Could this be a malware culprit?
I tried all the other remedies listed for a Bing hijack; none worked. Then I noticed the "PhotoJoy/Conduit" attribution.
I seem to have picked up PhotoJoy from a C-Net download, which inserted a PhotoJoy toolbar into Firefox. I did an uninstall and thought I had gotten all the PhotoJoy crap out.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
You can open the about:config page via the location bar and do a search for bing via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.
You can reset all bing related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.

Hi!
The about:fig fix cleared up the problem. I felt as if somebody had broken in and rearranged my living room furniture when I wasn't looking. Very annoying to have my search engine hijacked like that. Many thanks, Bill
Sorry I do not understand these directions. Please make it simpler for us dumbskulls. Thanks.
Okay, you're in Firefox. That's where we start.
If you type about:fig into the location bar (the white area just below the tabs that displays where you currently are, or wish to go) and hit "ENTER," you will get a warning box about voiding your warranty. Click "ok" to that box and you will get a page that displays columns of configuration settings. (Think of it as a hidden "options" or "preferences" type menu.)
Type "Bing" in the filter bar that sits above the columns and hit "ENTER" to display those settings that have been switched to Bing from your default (they will be in bold). Right click on each of them and set their values back to default in the drop-down menus that appear.
Doing this was intimidating at first. Printing out these directions helped.
FWIW. the culprit in my case was VLC Media's installation software. I wasn't paying enough attention when I was clicking through the EULA splash screens on installation and inadvertently agreed to make Bing my default search engine. Read those damn things carefully, no matter how many thousands you have okayed before. Ya' never know what's in there.
Good luck!

I'm using Firefox 7.0.1 => go to View, Toolbars, Add On Bar, then remove Start Now toolbar and it will take care of the problem!
This insidious bing was making me crazy too. After tryng some solutions posted here, I found an easy one for chrome. Right click in the address bar, click 'edit search providers', reset default!!!
